Leather Care Makes Easy with Home Remedies

 

It’s easy to buy a leather product off the shelf. But when it comes to maintaining the leather, that’s another thing. And when it gets stained accidentally – OUCH! We’re making it easy here for you to preserve the looks of your leather product with low cost home remedies.

  1. 1.White eraser: This is surprising great for ink and dirt stains. Most effective when used immediately. Apply light pressure and gentle strokes to remove ink and dirt. Avoid rubbing too hard so colour doesn’t run.

     

  1. 2.Corn starch: Excellent for oil stains. Rub the corn starch in and allow oil to be absorbed. You could out it under a light bulb for additional heat to quicken the absorption. Brush it off with a gentle toothbrush or soft cloth. Repeat until oil is totally removed.

 

  1. 3.Baking soda: Works well in removing odours from bags (and even refrigerators!). Place a container of baking soda in your bag to absorb the odours. A container with a wide surface quickens absorption. Depending on how strong the odour is, you might need to change the baking soda a few times.

 

There are also a few ways of destroying your leather products, if you wish:

 

  1. 1.Using hand/body lotions and creams on your leather products will cause darkening of leather and attract dirt and soil, especially for unfinished leather. Most of these skin lotions contain mineral oils and lanoline that cause leather to rot over time. As the name suggests, they are only for your hands/body.

 

  1. 2.Using strong soap to remove stains or dirt from leather guarantees destruction in the long run because of high pH level. Unless you own a stable and has to scrub saddles, strong soap just doesn’t agree with handbags.

 

  1. 3.Cleaning your leather products (especially unfinished leather) with baby wipes will cause staining. No matter how gentle the baby wipes claim to be, they are meant for babies, not leather.

 

  1. 4.Leather care products for cars and furniture usually are soap-based, high on the pH level and stain unfinished leather. Use only leather care products for bags.
